Transdisciplinary Creative House | Immersive Performance + Embodied Research | Black Diasporic Futurity
Matter + Light is a transdisciplinary creative house building immersive worlds at the intersection of Black diasporic memory, ritual practice, and emerging technologies. We merge creativity and technology to build immersive worlds where story becomes sensation. Rooted in Black diasporic narratives and futurity, our innovative performances and immersive artistic explorations honor lineage, ignite imagination, and illuminate new ways of seeing, feeling, and being.
What We Do
Our Practice
Matter + Light creates experiences that are immersive and multi-sensory by design. Rather than separating audience from performance, we invite participants to enter environments—portals—where movement, sound, light, and architecture create a cohesive world. These worlds are choreographed. They are ritualized. They are built to be felt.

What We Center
We center Black diasporic narratives and futurity—not as theme, but as method. We explore what it means to carry memory across time, to inherit fragments, to survive rupture, and to imagine futures from within the body. Our aesthetic is informed by diasporic cosmology and Black feminist thought, holding space for complexity: grief and brilliance, rupture and rebirth, mourning and imagination.
Our Purpose
Matter + Light exists to illuminate what has been obscured and to reimagine what is possible. Through embodied research and immersive creation, we aim to:

At Matter + Light, we treat this archive as living material—something that can be shaped, activated, and transformed through performance and world-building.
